From St. Peter’s to St. Peter’s

Today is the feast of St. Teresa of Avila.

I am a Catholic. I am a mother and grandmother. I am a wife. I am a member of no political party. I follow the teachings of the Catholic Church first. I hold the Constitution above any party or candidate.

In his article Catholic Church Leadership Is the Problem Richard Viguerie has presented a viewpoint that spans the distance from St. Peter’s in Rome to St. Peter’s in Washington, VA. I can’t disagree with his concern. It leads to two questions: Are there those in the Church who are leading Catholics to socialism?  And: Is capitalism a sin?

To the first question, my answer is Yes. To the second question: Capitalism is not a sin. The new parking lot at St. Peter’s is a sin.

My husband would say it was a sin (with his tongue in his cheek) because it is an offense against the environment and truly defies the spirit expressed in Laudato Si’. I would say it was a sin because our Pastor has saddled the parishioners of St. Peter’s with an unneeded $85,000 debt. The figure $85,000 was given to us by Father in Bulletin_2016-08-14:

The total cost of the job was $85,000 (between two paving companies)

The reason I call it “debt” is because where is our small parish going to get that kind of money?

In the manner of Saul Alinsky, our Pastor brought this debt to the Parish. In the manner of socialist and communist governments and their “central planning” he imposed this debt on the Parish. In the manner of the Former Soviet Union and the Obama administration he has spent beyond the ability to pay. Whether it is $20 trillion or $85,000, it is debt.

Am I being too critical?

Question: What did the Finance Council know about this and when did they know it?

Question: Where is the Parish financial report for this past fiscal year?

Question: Was there a pressing “need” for paving the parking lot?

You may think I’ve strayed from my lead in about Richard Viguerie’s article. Nope. The Church founded by Jesus Christ seeks the salvation of souls. Socialism and the teaching of Alinsky are secular. Even when they claim to seek “interfaith” goals, they don’t care about the salvation of souls.

So, if some Church leaders are leading us to socialism, then wouldn’t that mean that they are leading us away from the salvation of souls. How many souls will be saved by the asphalt surrounding St. Peter’s?

There it is. From St. Peter’s in Rome to St. Peter’s in Washington, VA, the sheep are being led astray. As Joni Mitchell would sing:

Don’t it always seem to go

That you don’t know what you’ve got

Till it’s gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

St. Joseph, Protector of the Church, pray for us!
